Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy dates back to the healing traditions of ancient Greece and Egypt. Austrian physician, Franz Mesmer is acknowledged as the first person to scientifically investigate the concept of hypnotherapy. Mesmer is credited to have been the first doctor to understand the relationship of psychological trauma to illness. He induced a trance-like state in his patients to treat nervous disorders successfully. This became known as mesmerism. Mesmerism techniques became the basis of modern-day hypnotherapy. Hypnosis or hypnotism derived from the Greek word meaning “sleep” is a natural state of heightened awareness and relaxation wherein an individual allows himself to enter so that desired beneficial suggestions may be given directly to the subconscious mind. Hypnotherapy is the treatment of physical or psychological conditions by hypnotism. Hypnotherapy is a kind of psychotherapy. It aims to reprogramme methods of behavior within the mind, thus overcoming unreasonable fears, phobias, negative thoughts and repressed emotions.
