Knowing Your Rights

So many people nowadays are joining health spas to improve their physical condition. Although many are satisfied with what they receive, there are some who are not. Most often they complain of high-pressure sales tactics, mispresentations of facilities and services, broken cancellation and refund clauses as well as lost membership fees due to some spas going out of business. Here are some tips to avoid these problems:

Inspect the spa – visit the spa during the time you would normally use it to check if the place is overcrowded, if the facilities are clean and well-maintenaned and if the equipment are in superb condition.

Review the contract – there are spas that ask you to join and pay the first time you visit, then offer incentives to convince you to sign right then and there. It would be wise to wait a few days before making your decision. Take the contract home so you can carefully review it.

Finally, research on the health spa's history. Ask if there are complaints about the establishment, or inquire about laws regulating health club memberships.

These reminders would help you in deciding if it would be wise to join a health spa or if it is wiser to just go someplace else.
