How much exercise do I need?

It really depends on your present level of physical fitness. Generally, it is recommended that a person exercise 4 to 6 times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes at a time. Don’t push yourself if you haven’t had any activity for a long time. Start slowly and gradually increase the duration and the intensity.

I want to start exercising, what should I do?

Before you start on any fitness routine, you should first consult your doctor. He will tell you if you have any medical condition (heart conditions, pregnancies) that may be aggravated by unsupervised exercise.

How can I not lose interest in my exercise program?

A lot of people lose interest in exercising especially if they reach a plateau. If you are beginning to feel bored with what you are doing, you can shift and do another physical activity that interests you. You can also work out with a friend (so you can both encourage each other) and try to incorporate a bit of fun into your routine.

I feel pain whenever I exercise, should I continue?

No. Forget the old saying that goes “no pain, no gain”. Experiencing slight discomfort or soreness at the start (and end) of any exercise routine is normal, but feeling any form of pain is not.

Do I need to enroll in a gym or sports club?

No. If you don’t have the time, interest or finances to sustain a regular gym membership you can still exercise and be fit. Just incorporate more activities in your lifestyle. Instead of taking the lift, for example, use the stairs. Leave your car at home and commute/walk or take the bike.
