GlossaryAstigmatism – an ocular defect (caused usually a deformed cornea) which prevent the light rays from meeting in one focal point resulting in a distorted or blurred image Eye – an organ of sight Hyperopia – also called far or long sightedness, this condition occurs when the light rays focus behind the retina thus making distant objects clearer than objects that are nearer the viewer. Glaucoma – eye disease that is characterized by increased pressure within the eyeball. If left untreated, the optic nerve and retinal nerve fibers will be damaged Macular Degeneration – eye disease caused by the gradual deterioration of the central portion of the retina resulting in loss of central vision Myopia – also called near or short sightedness, this condition is characterized by one’s inability to see distant object as clearly as objects that are nearer the viewer
