Causes of Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) stems from being afflicted with certain physical ailments and being bothered by psychological conditions. Usually, ED is caused by medical conditions such as:

Vascular Disease:
Diseases that affect the blood vessels such as arteriosclerosis, high blood pressure, and diabetes mellitus are likely to cause ED.

Diabetes Mellitus
Constant high levels of blood sugar, characteristic of those afflicted with Diabetes, can damage the blood vessels in the body. This, in turn, impairs the nerve impulses and reduces the blood flow needed to sustain an erection.

Other causes of ED include psychological disturbances such as being depressed, guilty, and excessively stressed; intake of some prescription medication (for high blood pressure and heart conditions); and excessive consumption of alcohol. Researches show that there is a high incidence of ED among smokers and obese men.
