About Diabetes Mellitus

Diabetes mellitus (DM) has become one of the leading diseases nowadays. It has affected both men and women, the thin and the obese and the young and the old. Diabetes mellitus actually refers to a group of disorders that shows malfunctioning or poor insulin secretory response, underutilization of glucose and hyperglycemia. These result to a chronic disorder of carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism with long-term complications. Because of our changing lifestyle, complicated with a strong genetic predisposition, diabetes mellitus had made its sweet revenge, as more and more people are being diagnosed with this disease.
