What are essential oils?
Essential oils are pure, concentrated plant extracts obtained specifically for their fragrance and therapeutic value.

What are essential oils made of?
Essential oils are compositions made of the basic organic elements; carbon, oxygen and hydrogen, forming alcohols, esters, ketones, oxides, phenols, and terenes.

Why do I have to dilute the oils?
It is for your own safety. Many of the oils are irritants or sensitizers and can do serious damage if not used in appropriate dilution on the skin.

What is an "appropriate dilution"?
For a healthy adult, the "standard" is a 2.5% dilution, i.e., 15 drops per fluid ounce of carrier oil, or 2 to 3 drops per teaspoon of carrier.
What's the difference between an Absolute and an essential oil?
Essential oils are steam-distilled, while the absolutes are solvent extracted and may have traces of solvents left in them.

Are there career choices in aromatherapy?
You could get a job as an aromatherapist in the beauty or alternative therapy fields, set up your own business, or be employed by a hospital, fitness centre, health club, etc.
